While already well known as one of the world’s leading mineral processing equipment companies – supplying AG, SAG and ball mills, mining crushers and vertical mills, amongst other equipment, as well as mine hoists, CITIC Heavy Industries (CITIC HIC) has now moved into mobile mining equipment with the launch of two mining trucks.
On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, on October 20, 2026, a 220 t class diesel-electric rigid mining truck and a 90 t class battery-electric wide-body truck rolled off the company’s production line in Luoyang, Henan Province.
The 220 t payload rigid mining truck CITIC HIC says is designed for large-scale open-pit mines with a capacity of 10 Mt/y plus, having a height of about 7.4 m and a service life of 15 to 20 years. Combined with its 1,864 kW high-power power system, AC-DC-AC electric transmission, long-life rigid body and multi-level safety protection system, the company says it can achieve all-weather, high-intensity continuous operation, providing a ‘hardcore guarantee’ for cost reduction, efficiency improvement and stable production in large mines.
The 90 t payload battery electric wide-body truck is about 4.6 m tall and with a cited service life of three to five years. The vehicle is equipped with CITIC HIC’s self-developed operating system and controller, and has specialised parameter calibration and tuning for extreme environments such as carrying heavy load on very uneven haul roads and dealing with alternating high and low temperatures.
Being a battery truck it has zero emissions, low noise, and ‘highly stable operation.’ At the same time, the vehicle is equipped with standardised driverless interfaces for AHS application, enabling rapid upgrades to intelligent operation, CITIC HIC says making it a key transportation piece for building a green, smart mine full-scenario operation system.
The company stated: “Currently, the domestic mining industry is accelerating its transformation toward intelligence and greening, and unmanned transportation in open-pit mines has gradually shifted from demonstration pilots to rigid construction requirements.”
It adds: “CITIC Heavy Industries proactively undertakes the national mining industry layout during the 15th Five-Year Plan, fully coordinating its own technological accumulation, equipment manufacturing capabilities, and synergistic advantages in industrial integration, focusing on opening up the full chain of mine technology and equipment systems covering production, installation, transportation, crushing, grinding, and selection.”
It says the successful rollout of two types of mining transportation equipment extends CITIC Heavy Industries’ traditional advantages in crushing and grinding equipment to the mining transportation segment, continuously building a new development pattern of multi-industry collaboration.
Finally the company also unveiled an autonomous operation system for underground LHDs, it says to address the pain points of high-risk underground manual operations. Centred on CITIC Heavy Industries’ self-developed operating system and controller, it has developed “a high-precision, highly real-time, and highly dynamic response wire-controlled chassis.”
The autonomous LHD system it says integrates visual inspection and electronic access control systems, enabling autonomous transport in underground tunnels as well as remote control loading and unloading. The system allows for unmanned and intelligent upgrades of underground loaders with associated safety benefits.
