Atalaya Mining Builds €342 Million Net Cash Position as Spanish Copper Production Rises

Atalaya Mining has strengthened its financial position as higher copper production and improved processing performance at its Spanish operations support plans for further mine development and technological investment. The company reported €342.1 million in net cash alongside a 15.2% increase in quarterly copper output, providing greater flexibility to finance growth from internal resources.

Higher Copper Output and Recovery Boost Operating Performance

Copper production at the Riotinto operation reached 13,967 tonnes, supported by higher ore grades and improved metallurgical performance. Copper recovery increased to 84.25%, compared with 74.45% in the corresponding period a year earlier, while ore mined totalled approximately 4.2 million tonnes.

The stronger recovery rate indicates improved efficiency in extracting copper from processed material, supporting production growth and the operation’s near-term financial performance. Atalaya has maintained its annual copper production guidance of 50,000–54,000 tonnes, although output is expected towards the lower end of the range. Maintaining operational stability and sustaining improved recoveries will remain important to achieving the forecast.

€342 Million in Net Cash Supports Expansion Plans

The company ended the reporting period with €354.1 million in cash and cash equivalents, bringing its net cash position to €342.1 million, up from approximately €122 million at the end of the previous year. The stronger balance sheet gives Atalaya greater capacity to finance development projects, exploration and processing improvements without relying heavily on additional debt or equity.

This financial flexibility is particularly relevant as the company advances several initiatives intended to strengthen its Spanish copper production base and improve the value recovered from complex mineral concentrates.

Masa Valverde and Touro Advance the Copper Project Pipeline

Atalaya is preparing to begin access-ramp development at Masa Valverde, a permitted Spanish project that could eventually provide additional ore for the group’s existing processing infrastructure. The project offers a potential route to expanding the company’s resource base and supporting longer-term production, although its contribution will depend on development progress and future operating decisions.

The company is also advancing the Touro copper project in Galicia, where environmental permitting remains a key milestone. Progress on the approval process will help determine the project’s path towards further development. Atalaya’s substantial cash reserves provide financial flexibility to advance these initiatives while continuing exploration activities. Available liquidity does not itself guarantee that every project will proceed on a particular timetable.

E-LIX Technology Targets Complex Copper and Zinc Concentrates

Alongside mine development, Atalaya is progressing its E-LIX processing technology, with a facility treating complex concentrates containing relatively high zinc and lower copper levels.

The technology aims to recover value from materials that can be difficult or expensive to process through conventional smelting routes. If commercially successful, it could broaden the range of copper-bearing and polymetallic concentrates that can be treated economically. The immediate priorities are consistent operating performance and demonstrating sustainable economics at commercial scale. Reliable results would help establish whether E-LIX can become a valuable addition to Atalaya’s processing capabilities and potentially offer wider applications within Europe’s metals industry.

Financial Strength Supports Atalaya’s Long-Term Strategy

Atalaya’s latest performance strengthens two key elements of its investment case: higher copper production with improved recovery rates and a substantial net cash position. The company now has greater internal funding capacity to advance Masa Valverde, progress Touro’s permitting requirements and continue developing E-LIX.

The next milestones will be sustaining stronger metallurgical recoveries at Riotinto, progressing the access ramp at Masa Valverde and demonstrating that E-LIX can deliver reliable commercial results. Together, these factors will help determine how effectively Atalaya converts its current financial strength into longer-term copper production and processing growth.
