A new strategic partnership combines SITECH Brasil’s expertise in heavy machinery and equipment with Nokia’s Cognitive Operations platform to promote safer, smarter and more autonomous operations throughout Brazil, starting with fatigue detection with AI. SITECH Brasil is a specialised technology business unit operated by the Sotreq Group, serving as an authorised distributor and technology partner for Trimble and Caterpillar heavy civil construction and mining systems.
The move brings Physical AI to mining and construction operations in Brazil. This technology allows machines and equipment to perceive the environment, process information, make decisions, and perform actions intelligently. The partnership combines SITECH’s expertise in heavy machinery and equipment, from teleoperation to autonomous mining, with the Nokia Cognitive Operations (NCO) platform and the Cognitive Edge Node (CEN).
Working with important companies in the Brazilian mining sector, SITECH and Nokia say they will jointly develop and market solutions. SITECH will be responsible for commercialisation, application engineering, integration, commissioning and local technical support.
At the heart of this architecture is CEN, which integrates connectivity across multiple cellular, satellite and Wi-Fi Mesh networks into a resilient infrastructure designed to eliminate single points of failure and ensure the availability of the real-time data needed for Physical AI applications.
The goal is to accelerate the evolution from connected operations to truly intelligent operations. “Physical Artificial Intelligence is moving out of the labs and into the mines,” said Lelio Di Martino, General Manager of Cognitive Operations at Nokia. “With SITECH, we bring intelligence directly to the most critical machines and operations, making them safer, more productive and autonomous.”
“Our customers are looking for safer and more productive operations, and they need these solutions now,” said Ricardo Mesquita, Commercial and Engineering Manager at SITECH. “With Nokia, we incorporate Physical Artificial Intelligence into our knowledge of heavy machinery and equipment, relying on the expertise and local support that SITECH provides.”
First applications include fatigue detection, a solution already validated in proof of concept (PoC), ready for expansion, contributing to the prevention of operational incidents; real-time and predictive fuel analysis for monitoring consumption, identifying waste and supporting operational planning; and teleoperation and remote control of heavy machinery – solutions that allow keeping people out of situations and areas of risk, increasing the safety of operations.
Fatigue detection will be the first application to be scaled up, with deployments expected in December 2026. The companies are already developing joint projects in the Brazilian mining sector, with the potential to expand throughout Latin America.
