AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Gold Mine in Ghana has been a long-standing supporter of Gekko Systems’ InLine Leach Reactor (ILR) technology, having adopted the technology during its early years of commercial deployment. In 2027, the Obuasi processing plant, which incorporates a BIOX® circuit, will commission its fourth ILR. The site has successfully operated three ILRs since the mid-2000s, demonstrating a sustained level of trust and confidence in the technology’s performance, reliability, and value.
The addition of a fourth ILR further highlights the flexibility of the ILR design, which enables its integration into complex processing circuits while effectively managing downstream operational risks. This is particularly important at Obuasi, where potential cyanide exposure to the flotation and BIOX® circuits is a key consideration due to the sensitivity of these processes. The ILR’s ability to operate within such constraints reinforces its suitability for challenging gold processing applications and its proven role in supporting safe and efficient plant operation.
Gekko says its easy-to-use InLine Leach Reactor (ILR) offers superior gold recoveries in a high efficiency, low cost system. The innovative ‘rolling barrel’ design of the ILR agitates and leaches coarse gold concentrates under intensive cyanide and oxygen conditions. The ILR is available as a completely automated batch model for processing small volume gravity gold concentrates from batch separators; and, as a continuous model for treating high-throughput gold and complex sulphide concentrates from an InLine Pressure Jig and flotation circuits.
Fully optimised to mining operations, the ILR boasts consistent free gold recoveries of over 98% as well as superior recoveries of gold from complex sulphide ores. Leaching coarse (>300 micron) gravity concentrates and recycling leach solutions delivers low energy and operating costs. Rapid leach kinetics and an automated system provide fast mineral recoveries.
