Osmond Resources Values Spain’s Orión Critical Minerals Project at US$2.31 Billion NPV

Osmond Resources has estimated a post-tax net present value (NPV) of US$2.31 billion for its Orión rare earths, zircon and titanium project in Andalucía, Spain, outlining the development’s preliminary economic potential as the company prepares for further drilling, metallurgical testing and pre-feasibility studies.

The scoping study forecasts an unlevered post-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 145%, with initial capital expenditure of approximately US$299 million, including a 25% contingency. Average annual EBITDA is projected at around US$531 million, while the study indicates a potential payback period of approximately six months after production begins. These estimates establish an initial economic framework for Orión, although the project remains at an early development stage and requires further technical work to validate its commercial prospects.

Underground Mining Plan Targets Multiple Critical Minerals

The proposed development is based on an underground operation producing approximately 2 million tonnes of ore annually, using room-and-pillar mining methods over an initial mine life of nine years. The planned first-stage production profile includes approximately 42,300 tonnes of monazite concentrate annually, alongside 68,000 tonnes of zircon concentrate and 109,000 tonnes of mixed titanium concentrate.

Osmond estimates that the project’s potential output could eventually account for around 6% of projected European Union neodymium-praseodymium demand, while also supplying significant proportions of regional zirconium and titanium requirements. The combination of rare earths and industrial minerals could position Orión as a potential contributor to Europe’s efforts to diversify supplies of critical raw materials. However, actual market contributions will depend on the project’s eventual production capacity, product quality, processing performance and commercial agreements.

High-Grade Mineralisation Supports Development Potential

Orión currently has a maiden mineral resource of approximately 60 million tonnes. Its Main Seam contains around 49.7 million tonnes grading 10.29% titanium dioxide (TiO₂), 3.42% zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂) and 7,139 parts per million of total rare earth oxides.

These grades form the geological basis of the preliminary development model, which combines rare earth production with zircon and titanium concentrates. The project’s economic performance will depend partly on its ability to recover these minerals efficiently and generate revenue from multiple product streams. Recoveries, concentrate payabilities and by-product credits are therefore important assumptions that require further verification.

Resource Confidence and Metallurgy Remain Key Risks

Despite the strong headline financial estimates, the scoping study carries significant uncertainty. Approximately 29% of the production target is based on Inferred mineral resources, which have a lower level of geological confidence than higher-classified resources Osmond has not yet declared an Ore Reserve, and the initial capital estimate has scoping-level accuracy of approximately ±35%. The projected NPV and IRR should therefore be treated as preliminary rather than definitive measures of project value.

Further work must establish whether the current resource can support the proposed mining schedule and whether metallurgical performance can sustain the projected economics. Changes in recovery rates, product prices, operating costs or concentrate terms could materially affect the results.

Drilling and Pre-Feasibility Work to Advance Orión

Osmond plans to conduct a 13-hole drilling programme aimed at upgrading and expanding the existing resource. The company also intends to advance pre-feasibility-level metallurgical studies and downstream rare earth processing assessments in collaboration with Técnicas Reunidas. These activities are expected to improve confidence in the resource model, clarify processing requirements and provide a stronger technical basis for evaluating the proposed operation.

In parallel, Osmond is pursuing recognition and potential support through Spanish and European critical-material initiatives. The company is also considering a secondary listing in Madrid.

European Critical Minerals Strategy Adds Strategic Context

Orión’s proposed production mix could offer exposure to several minerals relevant to European industrial supply chains, including rare earth elements, zirconium and titanium. Developing a domestic European source could help diversify supply, although the project’s contribution will depend on successful development and the availability of suitable downstream processing and customers. The scoping study marks a transition from an exploration-stage concept towards a more defined mine-development proposal. However, the estimated US$2.31 billion post-tax NPV will need to withstand more detailed technical and economic evaluation.

The next decisive milestones are resource upgrades, confirmation of metallurgical recoveries and progress towards a pre-feasibility study. Establishing a credible permitting and financing pathway for a project requiring approximately US$299 million in initial capital will also be essential to determining whether Orión can advance towards development.
