Andrada Mining has reported further high-grade lithium mineralisation at its Lithium Ridge project in Namibia, strengthening the case for resource expansion as Chilean producer SQM funds exploration under an earn-in agreement. The latest drilling campaign returned an intersection of 34.90 metres grading 1.02% lithium oxide (Li₂O), including a higher-grade interval of 6.22 metres at 1.67% Li₂O. Another drill hole intersected 9.03 metres grading 1.64% Li₂O, adding to the evidence of lithium-bearing mineralisation across the project.
Exploration has also identified additional pegmatites outside the main mineralised trend, while drilling encountered tin and tantalum mineralisation alongside lithium. These findings provide further targets for investigation as Andrada works to establish the deposit’s scale, grade distribution and geological continuity. The results strengthen Lithium Ridge’s exploration potential, although further drilling, resource modelling and metallurgical studies will be required to determine whether the mineralised system can support an economically viable mining operation.
SQM Provides Funding for Lithium Ridge Exploration
The exploration programme is being advanced through an earn-in agreement with SQM, an established participant in the global lithium industry. Under the active first stage, SQM can provide up to approximately €6.2 million in exploration funding in exchange for a 30% interest in Lithium Ridge. The wider agreement provides for potential funding of around €35.5 million across its various stages. Subsequent stages remain conditional, and the full amount should not be regarded as committed funding for mine construction.
The distinction is important for assessing the project’s development prospects. The current funding supports exploration and resource definition, helping Andrada investigate the mineralised system without bearing the entire immediate exploration cost itself. It does not establish that the capital required to build a commercial lithium operation has been secured.
For Andrada, the partnership provides financial support for further drilling and technical work while giving SQM an opportunity to increase its exposure to lithium resources in Namibia.
Tin and Tantalum Add to the Project’s Mineral Potential
Although lithium remains the principal focus at Lithium Ridge, the identification of tin and tantalum mineralisation introduces additional commodities for further assessment. Their potential contribution to project economics will depend on the distribution and grades of the mineralisation, the results of metallurgical testing and whether the metals can be recovered economically alongside lithium.
The discovery of additional pegmatites outside the principal mineralised trend could also broaden the area targeted by future exploration. Establishing the continuity and dimensions of these occurrences will be important in determining whether they can contribute to a larger mineral resource. The latest intersections are encouraging geological indicators, but they do not yet establish the total size of the deposit or the amount of lithium that could ultimately be recovered commercially.
European Links Highlight Strategic Lithium Supply Potential
Namibia’s emerging role as a potential source of lithium and other critical raw materials gives Lithium Ridge relevance beyond the immediate exploration programme. Developing additional supply outside established Asian-dominated processing and battery-material supply chains is an important consideration for companies seeking to diversify sourcing options.
Andrada’s London listing and wider European institutional relationships connect its Namibian mineral portfolio with European capital markets and potential future battery-material demand. The company also has European Investment Bank support for lithium-integration studies associated with its broader Uis operations. However, no new European Investment Bank or European Union financing was announced alongside the latest Lithium Ridge drilling results.
That distinction separates existing institutional support for related work from funding specifically committed to advancing Lithium Ridge. The project will require its own technical and financial milestones to progress from exploration towards development.
Resource Definition Remains the Next Major Milestone
Lithium Ridge remains at the resource-definition stage, with further assay results, geological modelling and technical studies needed to establish its commercial potential.
The next steps will involve determining the continuity and extent of the lithium-bearing pegmatites, assessing grade distribution and evaluating whether the mineralisation can support an economically recoverable resource. Metallurgical performance and the eventual processing route will also influence the project’s feasibility. Even if further exploration confirms a larger deposit, Andrada will still need to advance through feasibility studies, permitting and the financing required for construction before Lithium Ridge can supply lithium to the market.
The latest drilling strengthens the project’s geological case and demonstrates the role of SQM’s exploration funding in advancing the work. The decisive test will be whether continued resource growth and technical studies can turn the exploration results into a commercially viable development.
