Komatsu HM460-6 ADT ready for K-Tec 1237 ADT scraper integration

Komatsu has approved the use of the K-Tec 1237 ADT scraper with its new HM460-6 articulated dump truck – delivering, it says, a powerful new mass earthmoving combination to Komatsu dealers throughout North America.

The 518 hp (386 kWh) articulated dump truck is an ideal match with the 37 cu.yd (28.3 cu.m) capacity scraper, creating a versatile mass earthmoving platform that only requires one operator and provides fleet managers with a dual-capability asset as the HM460 can be converted back for use as a dump truck, Komatsu says.

The use of the K-Tec 1237 ADT scraper with the HM460-6 has been tested and approved by Komatsu engineers to stand up to the rigours of the job site and retain the one-year unlimited warranty on the truck. Optional extended coverage up to 60 months and 10,000 hours is also available for the HM460-6.

“Mass earthmoving provides many machine combinations to get the job done right – all guided by the size of the job site and the distance between the cut and final grade to the primary dumping site,” Bruce Boebel, Director of Construction Product and Service, Komatsu, says. “An articulated truck chassis matched with a tow-behind scraper delivers serious advantages in long-distance hauling applications, as well as the ability to handle soft and complex ground conditions, and travel at a relative high rate of speed.”

Shaun Eidse, Director of Product, K-Tec, added: “The new Komatsu HM460-6 is a really strong fit for a scraper application. It has the horsepower, torque and traction you want for moving a lot of material, but the big advantage is that contractors aren’t limited to one application. They can run the HM460-6 as a traditional haul truck or put a K-Tec scraper behind it when that’s the better tool for the job. That gives them a lot of flexibility in how they use the truck and where they put their capital. For longer-distance mass excavation, where you need good travel speed, traction and the ability to move a lot of dirt, it makes for a very strong combination.”

The all-new HM460-6 was first introduced at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 and, according to Komatsu, represents a significant increase in power and tractive performance with 518 hp, a 23% increase in torque over the Komatsu HM400-5 (which it replaces in the lineup), and significantly improved fuel efficiency thanks to the all-new DBA127 diesel engine. As the engine does not have exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), overall fuel consumption is reduced and put entirely towards the working effort of the truck.

While the new HM460-6 is powerful, it’s also built to outwork any terrain the job site can throw at it with a new nine-speed Komatsu transmission and intelligent gear control, the company says. The truck’s powertrain is designed to balance performance and fuel efficiency even while hauling a heavy load across challenging driving conditions such as soft and wet ground.

This HM460-6 also features the Komatsu Traction Control System matched with cross-axle differential locks to help maintain traction in all conditions. Combined with a standard hydro-pneumatic suspension system built to deliver both ride comfort and stability, the HM460-6 is designed for reliable hauling across tough terrain.

“This is premium mass excavation and haulage delivered by a single operator capable of moving thousands of yards of material in a day while remaining in comfort, in control, and completely aware of the conditions and their surroundings,” Boebel says. “All supported by the Komatsu dealer you already work with and powered by a truck that is built for the toughest conditions.”
