DPM Metals is building a mining platform across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Bulgaria, targeting construction at its Čoka Rakita development project in eastern Serbia from early 2027. The company is increasingly treating the region as one operating system, with equipment, technical teams and cash flow moving between assets.
Čoka Rakita is the centrepiece of DPM’s next growth phase but remains at the development stage. To support work in Serbia, DPM is dismantling and refurbishing equipment from Ada Tepe, its closed operation in Bulgaria. Reusing the equipment can lower capital intensity, shorten procurement schedules and preserve technical knowledge within the company.
The regional strategy also draws on Vareš, DPM’s asset in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where cash generation and operating experience support its wider operations. Vareš is moving toward its full processing rate, while remaining exposed to a legal review concerning state property.
Exploration and operating model
In Serbia, DPM is expanding its exploration programme around the wider Rakita Camp. Strong drilling results at Dumitru Potok prompted the company to increase its 2026 campaign to roughly 32,000–35,000 metres, with up to 15 rigs planned. The Serbian projects must also navigate permitting and infrastructure requirements.
DPM’s model enables technical teams, equipment, contracting knowledge, procurement relationships and project controls to transfer between jurisdictions. Repeating capabilities across projects creates economies of repetition that smaller single-asset developers may find difficult to reproduce. The portfolio also spreads geological and operating risk and provides multiple routes to redeploy capital.
Mining development in the Balkans is often fragmented by national borders, permitting systems and small project scales. DPM’s approach depends on disciplined rehabilitation of its closed Bulgarian assets, as well as progress through the legal and permitting issues facing its projects. The company is positioning itself as a regional operating platform rather than a collection of Balkan mines.
If Čoka Rakita begins construction on schedule and Serbian exploration adds resources, DPM’s regional model could be repeated elsewhere in the region.
