Nordic Resources has increased the mineral resource at its Kopsa gold-copper project in Finland by 86% to 1.52 million ounces of gold equivalent, strengthening the foundation for mine planning and future economic assessments. The updated JORC-compliant estimate covers approximately 44 million tonnes grading 1.07 grams per tonne of gold equivalent. The resource contains around 1.18 million ounces of gold, 71,000 tonnes of copper and 3.5 million ounces of silver, adding scale to a project that Nordic is advancing towards more detailed technical and economic studies.
Approximately 86% of the contained gold-equivalent ounces fall within the Measured and Indicated categories. This classification provides a stronger geological basis for subsequent development work and potential mine planning.
The updated estimate incorporates 9,631 metres of additional drilling, while silver has been included in the resource calculation for the first time. Revised metal-price assumptions and metallurgical recovery factors also contributed to the increase, meaning the change does not reflect geological expansion alone and cannot be compared directly with the previous estimate on that basis.
Open-Pit Potential Supports Kopsa’s Development Case
Around 97% of the modelled resource falls within an optimised open-pit shell, with an indicative stripping ratio of approximately 4:1. The concentration of the resource within a potential open-pit configuration could support a conventional mining approach, providing a framework for assessing extraction methods, processing requirements and project economics.
The optimised pit shell is an indicative technical model rather than confirmation that the project is economically viable. Further studies will need to establish whether mining and processing costs, infrastructure requirements and expected metal recoveries support a commercially attractive operation.
Further Drilling Targets Resource Growth
Nordic Resources has launched a further 12,000-metre drilling programme aimed at expanding the Kopsa deposit and improving its resource classification.
The company’s combined mineral resource inventory across three Finnish deposits now totals approximately 1.93 million ounces of gold equivalent, placing Kopsa within a broader portfolio of gold and copper assets in Finland. A further Kopsa resource update is expected in the second quarter of 2027. Results from the drilling programme could help determine whether the deposit can grow further while maintaining a substantial proportion of Measured and Indicated resources. Any additional increase would need to be assessed alongside geological confidence, metallurgical performance and the practical requirements of developing a mine.
Economic Studies Will Be the Next Key Milestone
The expanded resource could provide the basis for an initial scoping study examining potential mining rates, processing options, capital expenditure and overall project economics.
Before Kopsa can progress towards a development decision, Nordic will need to demonstrate that recoveries can be achieved at commercial scale, define the required processing and infrastructure facilities, and assess returns under realistic metal-price assumptions. The latest estimate represents a significant increase in the project’s resource base, but a larger deposit does not automatically establish economic viability. The next stage will require technical work to translate the identified gold, copper and silver into a credible development plan.
If further drilling expands the resource while preserving a high proportion of Measured and Indicated material, Kopsa could enter 2027 with a stronger foundation for formal mine-development studies. Its longer-term prospects will ultimately depend on the results of economic assessments, metallurgical testing and the costs associated with bringing the Finnish gold-copper project into production.
